More info

The uniform had to be gray, with the insignia of the grades sewn onto the collar of the collar. The red and black bracelet was worn on the left arm. This featured the inscription "Deutscher Volkssturm Wehrmacht" with two Nazi eagles on the sides. However, as shown by the photos stored in the various archives or published in the various texts, the scarcity of materials forced the adoption of the most varied garments, even the use of civilian clothes and only the bracelet.
The weapons used by the militia were very heterogeneous: weapons confiscated from various armies and salvaged material. the Panzerfaust (anti-tank weapon) was widespread in the Volkssturm and was often the only weapon available.
