Ustaše Movement

The Ustaše was a Croatian political and paramilitary movement founded in the 1930s by Ante Pavelić. The movement’s ideology was based on Croatian nationalism, anti-communism, and anti-Serb sentiments, aiming to create an independent Croatian state under a fascist dictatorship. The Ustaše became crucial during World War II, when, after the Axis invasion of Yugoslavia, the Independent State of Croatia (NDH) was established, operating under Nazi control.

The Ustaše’s actions were marked by brutality, including the genocide of Serbs, Jews, and Romani people. Its infamy is tied to systematic violence against minorities and war crimes. The Jasenovac concentration camp in Croatia became a symbol of the regime’s cruelty.
